I'm not shure if I'm right, but I think you need the vacuum. Maybe you can use a little piece of tube and a screw to close it.

yep "don´t" was the missing word
The vacuum sets the ignition in direction early when the engine turns in higher revolutions.
there exist different OPINIONS to this matter.
some say you dont need it with the weber because the idle revolutions with a weber are shit and you have to put it on 1000rpm or slightly higher any way if you dont want it to go out.
In this case you just close the connection on the distributer and change the adjustment of the sitributer in direction early a few degrees (how many exactly i dont know ). and let the rest of the adjustment be taken care of by the fly-weights (???) in the ditributer bottom. ("fliehkraftverstellung")
Others say with the vacuum connected, the weber runs smoother on the 12S especially in accelleration mode. anyhow the idle is crap. and we have seen pictures of weber carbs that have the connection for vacuuum and there have been people drilling holes in their webers (which I would not recommend) to connect the vacuum.
i try to find the links
greetings
benno

RE: where to connect vacuum(unterdruck) from distributor(zundverteiler) with weber ? |

I found a few interesting dicussions with the search " weber unterdruck* "
but no pictures with the hole drilling experiment.
I would recommend you to adjust the ignition 10 degrees to early and set the idle on 1000 rpms and just forget about the vacuum...

Yes, you don't need the vacuum, instead of it you need a distributor with mechanical advance. The points plate which is moved by the vacuumadvancer is locked by screw. The flyweights and springs are changed to get the advance curve right. To be able to do this you need a distributor testing bench to see the advance at different rpms.
The vacuumadvancer is used to get better mileage when cruising at steady speed the throttle only partially opened.

but can we agree that if i connect the vacuum, it could only be better? not worse? but most likely it will not make any difference.
inspector.kadett: dont you mean the vacuum sets the ignition early on lower rpms? that way, if you set idle speed to 1000rpm, the vacuum is not necessary?
tim: the mechanical advance you are talking about, do i need to change the distributor or is this some kind of modification i can do to the one i have?

You can modify the one you have, but you need that distributor testing bench to get it right.
Search Google with: distributor recurving

i just ordered an electromotive electric ignition setup, so the distributor can be thrown away. :D
